Only for Macs with Apple Intelligence.
macOS 26 or later · Apple Intelligence must be enabled.
Turn it on in System Settings and finish downloading its models.
If Spotlight uses this shortcut, choose another in Anvil’s Settings.
On-device AI. No cloud connection.
File history is on by default. Other-app history needs your permission.
Requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs aren’t supported. Anvil checks compatibility before starting. No account or API key needed.
Your questions, file text, photo text recognition, and supported voice dictation are processed on your Mac. Anvil uses Apple’s on-device AI and has no cloud AI connection or fallback.
Apple Intelligence must be supported on your Mac, enabled, and its models ready before Anvil starts. Initial model downloads require internet access; Anvil’s AI works offline after setup. If AI or on-device dictation becomes unavailable, Anvil tells you. Websites and other apps you open have their own network behavior.
Anvil starts by searching accessible files in your home folder; choose searchable folders in Settings. The file index, extracted text, and saved conversations stay in local app storage. File history is on by default. After you grant Accessibility permission, it remembers document paths, app names, and times in supported Mac apps for 90 days. It does not record screenshots or keystrokes. You can turn file history off or clear it in Settings. macOS permissions still control access to protected folders and your microphone.
